This week our family has the joy of celebrating a remarkable milestone: the 90th birthday of Pat Hunt, a woman whose life has been a steady testimony to God’s grace, perseverance, and love.
Pat is Jan’s mother–my mother-in-law. I met Pat in the mid-seventies while attending Baptist College of Charleston (Now Charleston Southern University). When Jan and I started dating, ” I made the go home to meet the family trip”. Although she served my meal on a chipped plate ( a plate that for some reason I always ended up with), it was easy to fall in love with her.
Today is her birthday and I have had her on my mind. Ninety years is more than a number–it represents stories (and we have soooooo many), prayers, friendships, and countless moments where God’s faithfulness has been on full display. She has witnessed nearly a century of change, and yet her character has remained rooted in the things that matter most: faith, family, and kindness.
I have watched her throughout her life, and even more so recently, pour encouragement into others with a gentle spirit and a quiet strength. I am sure that raising four children in a military family had its share of challenges, and yet, all four of those children have succeeded in life far beyond the norm for most. Three of the four turned out great! (That should spark some lively discussion at the party this week-end!).
There is no doubt that many have been blessed by her warm smile, her thoughtful words, and her unwavering trust in the Lord. Without a doubt she is clothed with dignity, wisdom, and a heart that reflects Christ.
As we gather this weekend to celebrate this milestone, I will be giving thanks for her life. We will celebrate her legacy–not only in her children and grandchildren, but in the way she has touched the lives of those in her church, neighborhood, and the staff of “Ye Ole Fashion.”
Her journey reminds us that long life is a gift, and a life lived faithfull is a blessing to everyone it touches. I pray that God will continue to surround her with joy, peace, and the love of family and friends. And may her life story inspire all of us to walk faithfully in every season of life.
I love you Pat…..and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
This is my story…
