The start of a new school year is so much more than a date on a calendar–it is a season of new beginnings.

New classrooms, new teachers, new challenges, and new opportunities all wait on the other side of those school doors. For many change can feel overwhelming. However, the Bible teaches us that every new season is held firmly in the hands of a faithful and loving God.

I always like to lean on Proverbs 3:6 during seasons of new beginnings. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

Students are not the only ones starting something new. Parents have to adjust schedules, teachers need to prepare lessons, and entire families have to coordinate how to get everyone to the right spot at the right time. It seems like chaos reigns every year when school starts. It is good to be reminded that God meets each of us right where we are. He goes before every child stepping onto a bus, every teacher unlocking a classroom, and every parent panicked about the new school year.

It is a time for us to slow down and remember that learing is a gift. Growth–academic, emotional, and spiritual–is part of God’s plan for all of us. As we encourage our students to work hard, be kind, and stay curious, we also remind them that their identity is not found in grades or achievements, but in Christ alone.

So as we are filling the backpacks and calendars, let’s make a commitment to give this school year to the Lord. Our church will be praying for protection, wisdom, patience, and joy for each teacher, student, and parent.

I would like to challenge you to pray that our students shine as lights in their schools from kindergarten through college. Pray that our teachers feel supported and strengthened. Take a moment and pray that every hallway will become a place where God’s love is quietyly but powerfully lived out.

May this year be marked by courage, growth, and God’s steady presence–from the first bell to the last.
