Lucy has been a part of our lives for a long time.

My oldest daughter, Heather, rescued her years ago and introduced her to our family. I have always thought of her as a gentle, southern lady. She has watched over the birth and raising of two boys, kept all other puppies in check, and brought joy to our lives with her gentle loving spirit.

Every time we would visit, Lucy would be among the first to meet us at the door, tail wagging welcoming us to her home. She made sure to get a pat on the head from everyone before she would lay down and observe her family playing, eating, and having a good time. If it got too loud she would just politely excuse herself and find a quiet spot in another room. However, she would periodically walk thru just to make sure everyone was ok, and to get her ears rubbed or a pat on the head.

For 15 years she has proven over and over again to be man’s best friend and given her love unselfishly to her family and a few chosen friends. Her warmth and love has always brought us great joy. Even as her health began to fail she remained a faithful friend.

Today, we say good bye to Lucy as she crosses the rainbow bridge. We are all grateful for her love, gentleness, and companionship and will cherish her memories.

It is never easy to say goodbye, even to our furry friends.

This is my story…
