Easter is quickly approaching.  It is hard to believe that in just under three weeks we will celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday. For many, the days approaching Easter are filled with buying an Easter outfit, making sure baskets are filled, dying eggs, and searching for the largest Easter Egg hunt in town.  And I would like to point out that I do not see anything wrong with any of those activities.  They can definitely make Easter a wonderful experience for our families as we celebrate this special day.  However, I would like to make some suggestions of some other things you could do with your family to enhance the experience as Easter approaches.

First, I would like to suggest that you take the time to read the Gospels.  This can be done as a family or independently.  It would be best if you could read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  Maybe use a Harmony of the Gospels.  A harmony takes all four books putting them together eliminating repeating stories, etc.  If you cannot read all four....at least select one and read it from beginning to end.

Second, I recommend seeing one of the many films about Jesus.  Again this can be done with family or independently.  I do not recommend The Passion for children.  There are many films that can be found that tell the story of Jesus in a less graphic way.  If you do this be prepared to answer questions and to check facts.  This is a great way to explore the meaning of Easter.

Last, but definitely not least, I highly recommend attending a Good Friday Service, a Sunrise Service, and an Easter Service.  It takes all three to comprehend the complete story.  Going to one does no suffice--going to all three.

There are plenty of suggestions of activities that you can do with your family or independently as Easter approaches.  I believe the three I suggested are "musts."  For most of my life I have tried to do these three things every year as Easter approaches.  You may call it tradition or habit..I call it enriching.  Why not give it a try?

This is my story...
